Overview and Submission Guidelines

Affordable VR and AR hardware are now readily available and are being employed in various biological research and translational settings. For example, VR and AR are augmenting surgery and being used in educating and training medical students and professionals. With an upswing in demand for headsets such as the Oculus Quest, Valve Index and HoloLens 2, 2020 could be the year that VR and AR ‘break through’.  These new platforms will spread adoption and promise to transform the way scientists explore, interact, learn and train in the biomedical sciences. We invite you to submit papers demonstrating how you have used VR/AR to transform your biological research.

Topics of interest may include (but are not limited to) use of AR or VR in:

  • High impact applications for biomedical science
  • Psychological applications related to healthcare
  • Uses of AI together with and VR/AR for the biomedical field
  • Patient wellbeing
  • Training and/or education

We will also accept papers that move AR and VR methodologies forward:

  • We will also accept papers that move AR and VR methodologies forward
  • Experimental design
  • Immersive and collaborative science
  • Visualisation, new ways of interacting with data and novel interfaces
  • Volume rendering techniques
  • Novel uses of movement tracking
