{"id":550,"date":"2014-03-28T09:43:07","date_gmt":"2014-03-28T09:43:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.doc.gold.ac.uk\/blog\/?p=550"},"modified":"2014-04-24T10:39:10","modified_gmt":"2014-04-24T10:39:10","slug":"550","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.doc.gold.ac.uk\/blog\/?p=550","title":{"rendered":"Google\/Barbican digital art site headlines Goldsmiths Creative Computing student"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>A Goldsmiths Creative Computing student is featured on the front page of<a href=\"https:\/\/devart.withgoogle.com\/#\/project\/16810710?t=featured\"> DevArt<\/a>, the new digital creativity website from Google and London&#8217;s Barbican Centre.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>DevArt is part of a new digital art installation for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.barbican.org.uk\/bie\/upcoming-digital-revolution\">Digital Revolution<\/a>, the biggest and most comprehensive exploration of digital creativity ever to be staged in the UK. After running in London, the exhibition will then go on tour to cities around the world.<\/p>\n<p>Year 2 student <a title=\"Student profile: Terence Broad (BSc Creative Computing)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.doc.gold.ac.uk\/blog\/?p=639\">Terence Broad<\/a> has developed a project that enables people to experience augmented reality by donning a virtual reality headset &#8211; the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/2014\/mar\/26\/facebook-buys-oculus-virtual-reality\">Oculus Rift<\/a>. This uses two cameras to replicate the user\u2019s normal vision (see video clips below) &#8211; and then allows others to distort and manipulate it.<\/p>\n<p><object width=\"600\" height=\"450\" classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/1BbDZTKxXGQ?version=3&amp;hl=en_GB\" \/><param name=\"allowfullscreen\" value=\"true\" \/><embed width=\"600\" height=\"450\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/1BbDZTKxXGQ?version=3&amp;hl=en_GB\" allowFullScreen=\"true\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" \/><\/object><br \/>\n<em>Initial testing<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Using the Google Hangouts API, people online can choose and link up sets of triggers and responses that control the perceptual experience for the user. Triggers can include motion detection, face detection, head movement, pitch, loudness and brightness.
