Looking at issues that engage with fashion, body and technology he will\u00a0suggest a perspective on \u2018biometric subjectivation\u2019 that entangles fashion and surveillance,\u00a0with\u00a0examples from the history, science and biopolitics of fashion.<\/p>\n<p>Elke Gaugele is professor for Fashions &amp; Styles at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.akbild.ac.at\/portal_en\/akbild_startpage\">Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna<\/a>,\u00a0dean of the Institute for Education in the Arts.\u00a0She researches on fashions\u2019 history of science as well as on biopolitics and new technologies in fashion; on aesthetic politics and postcolonial approaches in fashion, textile and cultural theory.<\/p>\n<p>Artist<strong> Dr. Dani Ploeger<\/strong>\u00a0will speak on digitized planned obsolescence and art, in relation to his recently published Leonardo paper <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mitpressjournals.org\/doi\/pdf\/10.1162\/LEON_a_01159\">Abject Digital Performance: Engaging the politics of electronic waste<\/a><\/em>. His performance installations involve consumer technologies and readily available medical devices, and explore themes around the technologized body, ecology, sexuality and vanity.<\/p>\n<p>Dani Ploeger is an artist and theorist, whose\u00a0artwork has been featured in galleries and museums across Europe, North-America and China, as well as festivals including transmediale (Berlin), CYNETART (Dresden) and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.monochrom.at\/arse-elektronika\/\">Arse Elektronika <\/a>\u2013 a festival of sex and technology (San Francisco).<\/p>\n<p>This event is co-organised with Goldsmiths&#8217; MA Fashion and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gold.ac.uk\/news\/homepage-news\/fashionresearchunitlaunches18thfebruary.php\">Goldsmiths Fashion Research Unit <\/a>and kindly sponsored by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.visiondirect.co.uk\">visiondirect.co.uk<\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/doc.gold.ac.uk\/thethursdayclub\/\">THE THURSDAY CLUB<\/a> is an open forum discussion group for anyone interested in the theories and practices of cross-disciplinarity, interactivity, technologies and philosophies of the state-of-the-art in today\u2019s (and tomorrow\u2019s) cultural landscape(s).<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Goldsmiths&#8217; THURSDAY CLUB presents short lectures and a conversation with Elke Gaugele and Dani Ploeger.
