This week we revisit a project\u00a0described by Marco Klingmann (Msc Cognitive Computing) in 2009.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/H68YF9YKKJ8?rel=0\" height=\"338\" width=\"600\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This is a simulation of agents doing &#8220;rock gathering on mars&#8221;. The agents have to find and collect rocks in a bounded environment and carry them to the mother-ship. The environment consists in collectable rocks (samples) and immovable obstacles. Each agent can only carry one rock at the time. Samples are clustered in certain spots.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright\" style=\"color: #333333; font-style: normal;\" alt=\"rocks\" src=\"http:\/\/www.doc.gold.ac.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/rocks.gif\" width=\"200\" height=\"100\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The agents do not know the location of obstacles and samples in advance.\u200cThe simulation scenario and agent behaviour rules were adapted from Steels, L. (1991). &#8220;Cooperation between distributed agents through self-organisation&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The agents are based on subsumption architecture (cf.
