Notes
    -
    Use of "non-linear" rays: when the index of refraction varies
    continuously.

 -
    Use the basic eqns from geometrical optics (a first in Graphics !) to
    model the propagation of rays in a medium with varying index of
    refraction --> ray tracing.

 -
    Model fluctuations of the index of refraction as a superposition of
    "blobs" and a stochastic function; for each case they derive
    an efficicient implementation using a perturbation technique -->
    stochastic model for the deviations of the rays.
